Peter, Paul and Mary at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom

Forty-eight years ago (Aug. 28, 1963), more than 200,000 people took part in the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. It was a rally for civil and economic rights, culminated by the “I Have a Dream” speech of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Several musical performances took place that day: gospel singer Mahalia Jackson, contralto Marian Anderson, Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, and Peter,Paul & Mary, who sang Dylan’s profound “Blowin’ in the Wind.”
