High-spirited instrumental part of Allman Bros.’ only #1 LP

On Sept. 8, 1973, The Allman Brothers Band began a five-week reign at the top of the US album chart with “Brothers and Sisters,” the group’s first studio recording after the deaths of leader Duane Allman and bassist Berry Oakley. It’s the band’s only #1 LP in the US.

A favorite on the LP is the instrumental “Jessica,” written by Dickey Betts and Les Dudek (and named for Betts’ daughter). Chuck Leavell’s solo on grand piano begins at about 2:30 into the song, and then Betts takes over at 3:45. The acoustic guitar throughout is Dudek.   http://youtu.be/dAt1pZB52qM
