It was 20 years ago today …
… on Sept. 24, 1991, a little band from Aberdeen, Wash., named Nirvana released their second album, ‘Nevermind,’ in America. Produced by Butch Vig, it was their first release after Dave Grohl had joined the band, and their first release on Geffen Records. The CD entered Billboard’s 200 Top Albums chart at #144 on its first week, and hit #1 in January 1992.
Originally, Geffen hoped the band could sell 250,000 copies of the album. By January, they were selling 300,000 copies a week.
“Come As You Are” was the second single released from the album. Does it sound like Kurt Cobain may have gotten its riff from the 1984 song “Eighties” by Killing Joke? Um… yes. http://youtu.be/vabnZ9-ex7o
