On we sweep with threshing oar; our only goal will be the western shore (“Immigrant Song”)

On Oct. 25, 1970, 20 days after it had been released, Led Zeppelin III became the #1 album on the Billboard Top LPs & Tape chart. The album would also reach #30 on the Billboard Soul LPs chart (?). This was Led Zeppelin’s first album to top the LP charts in the US (their first two releases peaked at #10 and #7 respectively).

Although Led Zeppelin III contained many acoustic compositions, it opened with a raucous power groove and primal Norse wail from Robert Plant. “Immigrant Song” would be released as a single (a rarity for this band) in early November and land in the Top 20.    http://youtu.be/nBmueYJ0VhA
